Abstract

The paper highlights the theoretical framework for evaluation of occupants’ experience with performance of environmental features of public houses in developing countries. As an ongoing PhD research, the aim is to postulate a framework for public housing evaluation with reference to occupants’ experience. Literature revealed how little attention is given to intangible environmental features such as safety, security and natural light in performance evaluation of public houses. Oversight from previous studies was noticed on the influence of human attributes on environmental performance evaluation, the inadequacy in environmental performance evaluation researches in public houses and the need for the appropriate evaluation concept. In contrast to previous environmental performance evaluation frameworks, this framework emphasis the use of occupant’s experience concept and not satisfaction concept for the evaluation. Therefore, this paper provides an insight on the most significant environmental features and socioeconomic attributes that influence public housing performance. The paper portrayed the relevance of occupants experience to the sustainable public housing evaluation in developing countries.
