Abstract
Laboratory notebooks, for maintaining records of scientific research, are usually hand-written. Evolving along with IT developments, researchers nowadays tend to keep their laboratory notes in electronic devices. This requires procedures to be in place for managing both hand-written and electronic laboratory notes. This paper presents an improvement process as well as a records management guide for an electronic laboratory notes system. In the longer term, this paper suggests that the next objective should be to implement a more comprehensive modernization of the records management infrastructure for scientific research.
