Abstract
The article describes a study which aimed to acquire nutrient, pH, and dissolved oxygen data at the heads of both Baker and Mitchell fjords in the Chilean Patagonia. The researchers conclude that light availability and phosphorus should be taken into account as potential control of the phytoplankton bloom size in the area. The study also reveals that the combination of moderate surface concentrations of nitrate and low phosphate with a permanent stratification and low transparency makes it feasible to expect a low potential for primary productivity.
