Abstract

This study analyses the contents specified in the new Chemistry curriculum for ESO in the Valencian Community, as well as its distribution throughout this stage, comparing it with the curriculum of the Ministry of Education. Its structure stands on two basic ideas that develop cyclically throughout the three courses: substance and chemical reaction, with the help of the progressive presentation of different models. This curricular evolution is based on the specific educational research in chemistry, giving main relevance to the linguistic competence. In addition, it also emphasizes on the nature of scientific knowledge and pays sufficient attention to socio-scientific issues.
