Abstract
This summary statement deals with: introduction and general conclusions, principles guiding the recommendations and conclusions, recommendations for matching types of containment with types of experiments, implementation, and new knowledge. In the recommendations the types of risks are described. In the experiments several types of viruses and other organisms are mentioned. In the implementation the development of safer vectors and hosts, laboratory procedures and education are described.
