Abstract

The knowledge age is upon us . Expert systems and artificial intelligence have infiltrated our society. Companies are heavily advertising their so-called expert systems, and the layperson, particularly management, is being bombarded with information overload in this area . Industry has created a hype on expert systems, but there have been common misconceptions generated about expert systems from this advertising . This paper discusses these fallacies in the eyes of the layperson, and then provides some guidelines on how the layperson can become better informed on expert systems.
