Abstract

This paper presents a new computer-human interface for 3-D modeling systems, which is intended for use in product design. Conventional computer aided design (CAD) systems have had a major problem: it has been troublesome for designers to operate icons or input devices for creating various shapes on the CAD systems, as to realize their ideas to the shape of the objects. The proposed human-interface device detects user’s gripping form with embedded touch sensors on the device so that users can choose a specific function from one to another virtually without unnatural actions. A prototype of the proposed system demonstrates its effectiveness as a designing tool in a mixed reality environment.
