Abstract

A 23-year-old woman visited our hospital with fever, fatigue, nausea, and arthralgia. She was influenza A-positive and was concurrently diagnosed as having severe acute hepatitis with marked elevation of serum amino-transferases and a severe decrease of PT. Therefore, she was admitted to our hospital. She recovered quickly with plasma exchange and steroid pulse therapy and was discharged on the 12th day. We could not exclude drug-induced hepatitis, neither could A/H1N1 pdm be excluded as the cause of hepatitis in view of the clinical course. We present a case of severe acute hepatitis associated with hypercytokinemia caused by A/H1N1 pdm infection. © 2011 The Japan Society of Hepatology.
