Primer registro del tiburón Etmopterus unicolor (Engelhardt, 1912) frente a Valdivia, Chile (Chondrichthyes: Dalatiidae)

Abstract

One specimen of Etmopterus unicolor (Engelhardt, 1912) (Squaliformes: Dalatiidae), caught as part of the by catch of the "Hoki" Macruronus magellanicus novaezelandiae (Hector, 1871) fishery was studied. The lantern shark was caught on October 2003, on the continental slope off Valdivia, Chile, at 400 m depth, through trawling fishing. The specimen found is the first of this species recorded in Chilean and South Pacific Ocean ichthyofauna. This work is gives a description of the studied specimen and compares it with E. granulosus, the other species of the genus present on the Chilean continental slope. © 2007 Escuela de Ciencias del Mar Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.
