Abstract
The subject of research in this article is the phenomenon of FinTech, which more and more attention is paid to by both scientists and practitioners. Despite this and the increasing scale of FinTech development, the concept has not been precisely defined yet. The aim of the paper is to define the concept of FinTech and to identify the main drivers of its growth on the basis of a critical analysis of existing source materials. These mainly include relatively few scientific articles and studies prepared by selected financial intuitions, such as the International Monetary Fund or the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, as well as specialised Internet sources. The result of this analysis is a proposal of two definitions of FinTech, representing a broad and narrow understanding of the term. Using FinTech's narrow approach, it is possible to identify both the sector and its stakeholders, and thus to collect data on this subject and carry out scientific research.
