Abstract

A multicentric, double-blind clinical trial was performed, comparing the therapeutic action of fepradinol aerosol with that of salicylate of benzidamine (benzasal), also in aerosol form. One-hundred thirty-seven patients with articulate or extra-articulate injuries due to sports were included. The parameters studied throughout the trial were pain, inflammation, and functional limitation, together with the duration of the injury and the researcher's clinical judgment of the effectiveness of the treatment. On analyzing the result, it was observed that the fepradinol-treated patients progressed more favorably than those treated with benzasal, both when the injury was articulate and when it was extra-articulate, the differences in the latter case being statistically significant. When studying the duration of the injury cure process, it was also observed that the improvement of patients treated with fepradinol was faster in both types of injury (P < 0.01). The researchers' clinical judgment favored fepradinol, with results of statistical significance (P < 0.01) both in the general group and in the extra-articulate subgroup. No undesirable effects due to the application of either of the drugs were recorded.
