Abstract
A case is a 81 year-old owner of a restaurant living in Tokyo. He hospitalized due to anorexia and jaundice. Hyperemia in the bulbar conjunctivae, remarkable jaundice of cholestatics type, hematuria and proteinuria were recognized. Since he had a chance to contact with a rat, Weil disease was suspected. Disturbance of his consciousness appeared on the 4th hospital day. On the 6th hospital day, ventricular fibrillation and tachycardia appeared suddenly. Liver biopsy performed on the 43 hospital day showed bile stasis in the central area and spotty necroses. Though the leptospira was unable to be detected by Warthin-Starry stain, elevation of the titer of antibody against the leptospira of the serovar icterohaemorrhagiae and copenhageni was comfirmed by microscopic cohesive reaction in the paired sera. Thus he was diagnosed to be Weil disease. © 1991, The Japan Society of Hepatology. All rights reserved.
