Abstract
The objective of this work was to study, in environment conditions in Dourados-MS, the growth and development of 'Jewel' nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus L.) under 0.20; 0.30 and 0.40 m spaces among plants and 0.60 spaces among between rows, which resulted in populations of 60,000; 43,956 and 33,000 plants ha -1, respectively, arranged in a randomized block design, with four replications. There were evaluated the following growth characteristics: plant height, aerial part fresh and dried matter, leaf area, leaf area index, leaf area ratio, net assimilatory tax and relative growth tax. For evaluating those characters, there were done eight samplings of plants between 15 and 120 days after seedling transplantation. 'Jewel' nasturtium had determined growth, maximum average height of 0.45 m, the beginning of flowering at 45 days and fruiting at 70 days after transplant. The plants did not tolerate excessive densities and they had bigger leaf area (15,000 cm 2) when they were cultivated under space of 0.30 m among plants and the biggest production of dried matter of aerial part (75 g plant -1) under 0.40 m. Relative growth rate varied during culture cycle.
