Abstract

This paper, extrated from a french encyclopedia on urban hydrology and urban drainage and sewerage (1), deals with the different relations between urban management and the water cycle. After an historical account-upon evolution of urban water management during the last centuries, two points are particularly - impacts of urban development upon receiving waters and upon the town itself, - precautions that must be taken in order to reconcile town with water.
