Abstract
Electrophysiology is an invasive procedure that requires the placement of a catheter into the heart. This procedure can diagnose abnormal heart rhythms and identify areas of the heart that are affected. If the cause of the abnormal heart rhythm is found, sometimes doctors will perform cardiac ablation. Cardiovascular technicians assist in the process of electrophysiological ablation procedures. The purpose of this article is to determine the role and duties of cardiovascular technicians in electrophysiological ablation. The research method is a literature review of several appropriate literatures. Cardiac ablation, also known as catheter ablation, is a procedure performed to correct abnormalities of the heart's electricity by damaging a small portion of the heart muscle in order to break the abnormal electrical circuit. Electrophysiological procedures are carried out in the cath lab and require a special team consisting of physicians, scrub nurses, cardiovascular technicians and radiology technicians. The conclusion is that the role of cardiovascular technicians in electrophysiological procedures carried out in the cath lab is as a circulator and monitor.
