Abstract
The antisialogogue and vagolytic actions of deptropine citrate (Brontina) and atropine sulphate were compared, and a clinical trial of deptropine citrate for premedication is reported. The antisialogogue action of deptropine citrate was found to be less intense than atropine but of longer duration. The vagolytic action of deptropine citrate was considered less satisfactory than that of atropine as judged by the prevention of bradycardia and cardiac arrhythmias during operations for correction of strabismus. In a clinical trial deptropine proved a drug suitable for premedication and did not cause tachycardia. © 1968 John Sherratt and Son Ltd.
