Abstract

Six patients with diabetic amyotrophy are described. Muscle biopsy revealed single muscle fiber atrophy in 4 cases and no abnormality in 2 cases. EMG in 4 patients showed reduced interference pattern on maximal voluntary contraction in all 4 cases. In 2 cases repeat EMG after complete clinical recovery showed reversal of the abnormalities. The pathogenesis of the disorder is discussed.
