Abstract
Wood from community forests has become an alternative for raw material to fulfill demand from households and wood industries, as wood supply from natural forests source and from Perhutani in Java have decreased. From supply side, the production of wood from community came from Banten and West Java Provinces and it tend this to increase year by year. Production increase happened in the study site such as in districts of Pandeglang, Lebak, Ciamis and Sukabumi. 3 The study results showed that in West Java Province, the wood supply from community in 2005 was 715,832 m and part 3 of them came from Ciamis and Sukabumi Districts; from Banten province up to 1,035,498 m of log and most of them came from Pandeglang and Lebak Districts. Hence, total wood production forest from community in western part of Java 3 is 1,751,330 m . The supply was far below the total demand for wood in West Java, Banten, and DKI Jakarta problems 3 3 in 2005 which is estimzated 6,624,003.93 m . It means have was lack of 4,872,673.93 m . The lack of the raw materials supply from outer Java is have to industries local wood was party substituted by using wood from community. As wood from community play advances rate to support the wood industries on western part of Java, the whole cycle (upstream to down stream) need supports from government (national and local), private industries, BUMN and NGO for improving community forest management, capital provision, and product distribution.
