Abstract
(1) Maternity and parental leave policies are being actively debated in the public and private sectors. Arguments for both sides have emphasized rhetoric over facts. (2) Families need help to integrate their work and family responsibilities. (3) Employers and policy makers must begin to address the demographic changes in the American family and the nation's work force. (4) Occupational health nurses have the opportunity to be leaders in effecting policy change.
