Abstract
48 babies were treated for neonatal tetanus and there were 10 deaths. 27 patients were treated with neuromuscular blockade, nasotracheal intubation and intermittent positive pressure ventilation. In this group there were 5 deaths and 3 of these were the direct or indirect result of respiratory complications. A management regime for neonatal tetanus is outlined and the complications are discussed.
