Appendix 1: Normed Linear Spaces

Abstract

Many results in this book, most notably the analysis of algorithms in Chap. 6, are conveniently carried out in the context of normed linear spaces. This appendix includes a brief review of relevant background material. It has been adapted from Yosida (1968) and Curtain and Pritchard (1977). Other relevant references include Liusternik and Sobolcv (1961), Kato (1966), and Luenberger (1969).
