Recognition of the clinical signs of Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome in owners of dogs of the Bulldog and Pug breeds in Metropolitan Lima

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the recognition of the clinical signs of Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) by owners of dogs of the English Bulldog, French Bulldog and Pug breeds in Metropolitan Lima in 2020. For this purpose, a questionnaire validated by expert professionals on BOAS was developed. Of the owners surveyed, 46% presented a medium level of recognition, 28% a high recognition and 26% a low recognition. The most recognized clinical signs were rales (93%), panting and snoring (91%) and stenosis of the nostrils (89%).
