Abstract

The methods of exact optics are here extended to cover the design of lens and mirror systems. Power series are given for the shapes of both Schmidt corrector plates and their complementary almost spherical mirrors. Their off-axis images are analysed. A meniscus glass corrector extends the prime focus field of an f/3.333 reflector with subarcsecond images by a factor greater than 10. © 2008 The Authors.
