Abstract

In an epidemic of tuberculosis 41 new patients presented with the disease or were traced. The index patient was a part time barman in a public house. Four children in his family and four who lived in the same block of flats were infected. Only seven of the 41 patients had been vaccinated with BCG. This epidemic indicates that the schools vaccination programme should be continued and the public made aware that tuberculosis still exists.
