Abstract

Mesitylene, biphenyl, naphthalene, MeOPh, C6Me6, and 4-MeOC6H4Me underwent oxidative acetoxylation and chlorination in the presence of WCl6. Thus, naphthalene was treated with WCl6 in AcOH-CH2Cl2 contg. NaOAc to give 38% 1-acetoxynaphthalene and 7% 1-chloronaphthalene.
