Abstract

The lecture we do of the urban culture conducts us to an interpellation which puts together different meanings of the observers who from a point of walking is interacting visually with the city. This article has the aim of presenting from an interdisciplinary encounter the content of the paintings in Valparaiso (Chile) and their relationship with the symbolic and cultural components inscribed in the urban space of the harbour city. The approach to develop is interdisciplinary because it integrates two disciplines: Ethnosemiotics and arquitectura; two disciplines of representing and interpretating the inhabitated urban space, known and reappropriated around a lecture of the paintings in Valparaiso. The writing conducts us to an analysis of the social practices of the inhabitated place, to recognized and signed interpretations of space, and to an aesthetic description of the arquitectonical forms which support the content of the paintings.
