Abstract

In case of underground constructions in soft rocks (particularly clay) the time dependent aspects are very significant and control the long term behaviour of the construction and therefore the choice of its dimensions. In this paper, a methodology is presented that forms a broad picture of the problem (from basic rheological experiments to the choice and dimensioning of the excavation lining). The whole procedure incorporating the convergence confinement method is illustrated for a real case.
