On the preservation of the old collection in Spanish libraries: University libraries

Abstract

The results of a questionnaire about the preservation of old collections are studied. The questionnaire has been answered by 23 Spanish university libraries. The questionnaire has been designed for this research, and reflects the essential aspects related to preservation. We have consulted principles, guidelines, standards, etc. that guide the conservation and preservation of collections. With the data obtained the preservation of the collections in the university libraries is described and compared with two reference guidelines. Improvement proposals are indicated.
