Abstract
Nowadays, making films doesnt mean anymore spending huge amounts of money and being depen-dent on film production or distribu-tion companies. Since the middle of the 20th century (the 60s), digital means have evolved in a quick and massive way, bringing into the field of film practice the mediums democra-tization, as several and original possibilities for film agents creation, production and distribution. With the progressive digital installation within cinema, and with the vertiginous technological development in the latest years, came a very important aesthetic, economical and cultural change. But besides the major interest evoked by the recent film possibilities and by the new forms of using and taking advantage of this shift, we consider to be essential to know how we have came to this point, i.e., in which way Film History has gave us examples and moments that have made a big contribution for the implementation of the digital element within cinema. Therefore, our proposal is to look behind, to establish a theoretical path through the 20th century film movements, and to set out a fundamental basis for under-standing the current digital situation within contemporary cinema.
