Abstract

Waste management into a resource that is more valuable economically is still an interesting study. Based on "Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2008 concerning waste management", namely waste management aims to improve public health and environmental quality as well as to make waste a resource. The existence of a garbage chopper is very important in supporting waste management. However, the machines currently available cannot work optimally. The main problem with this machine is that it is unable to chop the waste into smaller pieces. Therefore, an experimental study was carried out to modify the blade of a trash chopper. Modifications were made to the chopping knife using a shaft with a diameter of 0.25 m, a blade length of 0.1 m, and a thickness of 0.008 m. The blade of the process chamber consists of two parts, namely the static and dynamic blades. After going through the testing process, the machine can be used to chop organic and inorganic waste better than the previous design. From several experiments conducted, the effectiveness value of the chopping machine reached 95 %.
