Abstract

DOI: http://dx.doi.org/ 10.12957/tecap.2015.16351 The present work seeks to analyze categories such as authenticity, commoditization, and tradition in the light of authors writing in the field of Anthropology of Tourism, and who present important keys to the understanding of the production and consumption of handcrafted goods in Alcântara. What does it mean to buy a handcrafted product produced by a quilombola community? How do artisans, in their everyday lives, construct and make use of the interest shown by others in their handcrafted products, considering the latter as a metonymy that stands for their own ethnic identity?
