Abstract

Uses data from Operation Flood in Gujarat, India, to show that the dairy production had not met its objective of providing milk for the vulnerable groups in cities because milk was not purchased by the low income groups in sufficient quantities to be of any nutritional significance. However, the dairy system in the rural areas generated employment and increased the nutritional level of the poorest groups. Looking very briefly at projects in Ecuador and Dominican Republic, cites the social improvement arising from dairy projects.-P.Creese(CDS)
