Abstract
This paper deals with public archaeology as a scientific activity as well as practical experience. It starts by discussing the theoretical issues relating to public archaeology in Brazil, and then goes on to discuss a case study. It concludes by emphasizing the possibilities open toward a critical and socially employed discipline.
