Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the themes and arguments that emerged from the debate about homeschooling in television programs. For this purpose, a documentary investigation of four videos of television debates was carried out, with content analysis. The basis for the analysis was the academic Brazilian literature critical of homeschooling and in favor of school education. The arguments were grouped in the following blocks: legislation and rights; school education versus homeschooling; violences; socialization in school and family; values; teaching of contents; profile of the families; supervision and costs of homeschooling; and learning and evaluation. The analysis identified the predominance and types of arguments either in critical and favorable discourses on homeschooling, as well as some silencing, contributing for the advancement of the debates in and out of the academy.
