Abstract

This chapter places cooperative learning in a context of diverse classrooms of the 21st century and the demand for the inclusion of all children in our school system. The chapter begins with a comment on the promise of cooperative learning as a viable and readily usable methodology. The reasons for its introduction or wider use in our schools are explained. The background to the method is discussed and the research to support the use of cooperative learning from primary through tertiary education is noted. Finally, the use of cooperative methods developed by a number of writers is described and the application of the method to regular classrooms is explained. © 2010 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
