Eyewitness identification: expert witnesses are not the only solution

Abstract

Expert testimony about factors that can lead to flawed eyewitness identifications may sometimes be helpful to the trier of fact. However, it is expensive, and its utility in cases involving dueling experts has not been demonstrated. Greater emphasis should be placed upon other ways of preventing mistaken identifications, such as improving lineup procedures.
