Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis which spreads through the air and is contracted through saliva splashes when sufferers cough, sneeze, talk and spit in any place. Tuberculosis is still a disease with a high morbidity rate, accompanied by a very easy transmission, namely through the air. Objective: The purpose of the study was to determine the main factors causing the incidence of pulmonary TB. Methods: The type of research is analytic, the study design is cross sectional. The independent variables are the characteristics of the respondents (age, gender, education, occupation), knowledge, attitude and humidity of the house. The dependent variable is the incidence of pulmonary TB. Result: The results showed that there was a relationship between education (p = 0.009), knowledge (p = 0.000), attitude (p = 0.010) and house humidity (p = 0.022) to the incidence of pulmonary TB and there was no relationship between age (p = 0.097), gender (0.722) and occupation (0.508) to the incidence of pulmonary TB. Conclusion: The main factor causing the incidence of pulmonary TB is influenced by knowledge with OR = 2.75. Respondents with less knowledge have a 2.75 times greater chance of experiencing the incidence of pulmonary TB compared to respondents who have good knowledge.
