The eye in the egyptian mummy

Abstract

In the preparation of the Egyptian mummy no attempt was made to preserve the eyes, the orbits were often packed with linen and occasionally more sophisticated attempts were made to simulate eyeballs, e.g. by coloured stones. The demonstration of remains of the eyeball and other orbital contents in a mummy head is here reported. Undoubted melanin pigment was present in the eye. © 1957, Cambridge University Press.
