Abstract

Polyol is a polyurethane raw material where its consumptions always increase along with the national need of polyurethane. Polyol which has been using normally derived from petroleum, but it also can be derived from vegetable oil such as L oil since it has an oil contain of 40%-60% (w/w). Polyol based on L. was made in two stages, namely epoxidation and hydroxylation. Hydroxylation was done in two ways, halogenation and methoxylation. Polyol hydroxyl number of products were analyzed by titration and analyzed by (FTIR). This reasearch intend to study the effect of kinds of reagents, time, and mole ratio of reactants for methoxylation. The result showed that oxyran numbers obtained 3.92%. Hidroxyl number of polyol were synthised by halogination method and gave 18.15 mg KOH/g at reaction time of 60 minutes and hydroxyl number of 10.94 mg KOH/g for 90 minutes. Hydroxyl number of polyol obtained through methoxylation has the highest value of of 157.69 mg KOH/g at ratio moles of methanol to isopropanol of 1 : 9, and reaction time of 2 hours.
