Abstract

More than 70 experts contributed to this postgraduate textbook in pediatrics. In 39 chapters the various aspects of child development and disease in childhood are covered. Clinical descriptions of diseases (which are prefaced with a consideration of underlying anatomy, physiology and pathology) and appropriate means of diagnosis and treatment are extensively dealt with. Techniques and laboratory investigations which are necessary for advanced diagnosis and therapy are indicated. Growth and development and the measures which are available to prevent disease in childhood are discussed in detail. Social factors which are known to influence disease processes are identified. The special problems which arise in developing countries are discussed.
