Abstract

Reading culture is the most basic variable that forms an individual's thinking, criticizing and producing processes. In this respect, in this study it is aimed to determine the process of acquiring reading culture theoretically, and in this processes to present within the frames of age and development characteristics and children's literature of children at the primary school periods (6-10 ages). The study is carried out by using survey model and it is structured on the ground of a child's age and development characteristics and children's literature. Within this respect, as a result, it is considered that when the quality and quantity of institutions and establishments for developing reading increase, reading culture will also increase on the individualistic and social ground in our country like in many developed countries. With the briefest definition, acquiring reading culture is the sum of systems that should be approached with state policies and structured in a long period within the practices based on the ground of specialists, children and families.
