Abstract

Sustainable urban mobility is one of the main challenges facing modern cities. Urban mobility plans should be aimed at creating an adequate environment that guarantees a high quality of life for citizens and to promote the economic development of the city. In this work mobility in Barcelona has been analyze to determine to what extent the city can be considered a smart city regarding sustainable mobility. The challenges presented by the current model have been determined and the strategies car-ried out by the city to achieve the objectives of sustainable mobility examined. The study is based in reports and statistical data published by public administrations and prestigious organizations in this field, as well as recent theoretical contributions. The main conclusion is that, although Barcelona is one of the cities in the world that scores better in the smart city indexes and has a quality public transport network; it still presents a serious problem for sustainable mobility, the large number of private motor vehicles that occupy its streets.
