Abstract

The article focuses on the profession of occupational therapy (OT) and how it has been affected by the pendulum swings between a focus on the art of practice and an emphasis on science-based practice. It notes how the exclusive push toward science and evidence based practice (EBP) has driven the OT profession toward a homogenized medical approach to treatment. It cites the profession's aim of bridging the gap between art and science through an awareness of the various types of knowledge.
