Abstract

The post-transcriptional modification 5-methylcytosine (m5C) occurs in a wide range of coding and non-coding RNAs. We describe transcriptome-wide approaches to capture the global m5C RNA methylome. We also discuss the potential functions of m5C in RNA and compare them to 6-methyladenosine modifications. © 2013 BioMed Central Ltd.
