Abstract
Until now, migratory flows of Latin American women have predominantly been explained through an"economic" approach. However, based on testimonies of migrants at the Migrant Integral Care Center (Centro Integral de Atención al Migrante) in Santiago, this article shows other significant considerations that influence the decision to migrate and are not exclusively related to employment. Using a qualitative method, this article will not only describe a foreigner who migrates as part of a family project to satisfy their economic needs, but also a woman who seeks to escape from family and social responsibilities attributed to her gender.
