Why is the term femicide so disturbing? A case study of comments posted to the facebook page of the newspaper o globo

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze how ordinary citizens understand and discuss lethal violence against women and the relation of these discussions to the framing that news articles give to this type of occurrence. Content analysis was the methodological strategy used to analyze comments posted on O Globo's Facebook page in response to news about three murders of women that had different journalistic framings. We note that the term femicide may disturb more people who comment than the murders per se.
