EFFECT OF DIFFERENTIAL AND TRADITIONAL LEARNING IN DRIBBLING BALL FOR BEGINNERS BASKETBALL PLAYERS

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the differences on dribbling the ball effectiveness using two types of learning method- differential and traditional- during the teaching of the ball bout technique. The sample consisted of twelve amateur basketball players distributed in two practice conditions: i) traditional training group (TT) (n=6) and ii) differential training group (DT) (n=6). Players trained twice a week completing a total eight training sessions of 30 minutes each. Before the beginning of the training programs and after the completion of them, a pre-test, and a post-test was carried out. The results showed a 12,12% reduction in the time spent on the ball control test recorded before (8,44±0,35sg) compared to after (7,41±0,32sg) for TT group. Similarly, findings were found for DT group. Measurement of time spent on the ball control test was 10.16 % lower in post-test (7,96±0,70sg) than pre-test (8,35±0,43sg). Nevertheless, there was no significant differences in recorded times (p= 0,278) between TT group and DT group. According to the result found, DT and TT practice conditions were similar beneficial for the improvement of the ball control during the teaching of the ability dribble bout technique. Due to the limited studies that they have applied the DT learning method, it seems necessary to propose a specific and longer period of this type of practice to know if it is possible to obtain better performance.
