Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the elements of social representation that re-build on the failure of high school students. A qualitative methodology with transversal design is proposed. The sample was selected according to an intentional non-probabilistic criterion. The study involved 524 students (52% women and 48% men), with an average of 16.5 years (SD = .912). The instruments for collecting the information were a free evocation questionnaire and a refutation questionnaire. The results of the representational prototype show an organization of the discourse around three dimensions: the economic dimension, the academic consequences and the absence of family support. The refutation questionnaire confirmed the learning element (bad). In addition, it provided new information from the central core, which includes elements of low academic performance, school dropout and low-quality school.
