Abstract

A compact microstrip fed monopole antenna with dual band-notch function is proposed for ultrawideband applications. The antenna consists of a rectangular radiating patch one side and solid ground up to the half length of the antenna on the other side. The band notch functions are achieved by etching two back-to-back C-shaped slot in the rectangular metal radiating patch. Combination of each notch element on the UWB antenna is aimed for providing dual band rejection function at WLAN 2 (5.15-5.825 GHz) and ITU 8 GHz (8.025-8.4 GHz). The measured results reveal that the presented dual band-notch monopole antenna offers a very wide bandwidth with two notched bands from 5.2 to 5.96 GHz and 7.84 to 8.4 GHz. The prototype with overall size of 26 × 32 × 762 mm3 achieves good impedance matching, voltage standing wave ratio, constant gain, and stable radiation patterns, over an entire operating bandwidth of 2.8-12.16 GHz.
