Rediscovery of loriella osteophila (Cyanophyceae)

Abstract

The calcicolous cyanophyte, Loriella osteophila, has been rediscovered on limestone in Papua New Guinea. This is probably the first true record since the original description of the species by Borzi, and shows that the species is not restricted to bones. The filaments are described and the relation of the alga to the closely related but non-heterocystous Geitleria calcarea is discussed. © 1990 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
